Work-related injuries can also cause psychological distress

On Behalf of | Dec 22, 2022 | Workers Compensation |

You worked for many years without any major incidents. In fact, you largely enjoyed your occupation.

Unfortunately, in a split second, this all changed when you suffered a work-related injury. You now find yourself in the position of being unable to work all together. Not only has the injury taken a physical toll, but you are feeling it on an emotional level too. Outlined below are some of the more common psychological effects of work-related injuries.

You become isolated

The majority of people in the US spend a large portion of their week in the workplace. During this time, various social ties and bonds are formed. When you suffer a work-related injury, you lose all of this very suddenly. You may find yourself stuck at home for long periods with little social contact. This feeling of isolation can result in the injured worker feeling anxious and depressed

Losing your sense of purpose

People work to obtain a steady income so that they can pay the bills, provide for their families and purchase items that they appreciate. However, there is so much more to it than this. Work gives individuals a sense of purpose, which is a very strong phenomenon. To have this taken away through a work-related injury can be very traumatic. Again, this feeling heightens the risk of a person suffering from depression and anxiety.

If you’ve been injured at work, then you should be entitled to compensation for your pain and suffering. This may include psychological and emotional distress. Seek some legal guidance to explore your options in further detail.
